Announcement: Tweaking
April 27th, 2008So I’ve moved the content to the left. Why it was on the right is entirely beyond me. I was up to “redesign-10.psd” by the time I decided to lead with the sidebar. “Addled” is the word that comes to mind.

Every Maxtor drive I have ever owned has suffered hardware failure within its warranty period.
Without exception.
Now admittedly the upside is “I get free drives all the time”, but that’s no compliment. And before you say something about how I treat them, you should see the fans on the machines I put them in. They’re not hurting. They just suck.
Oddly, every Seagate drive I’ve ever had has been awesome. Way to go, Seagate!
Here’s a help for the innerblag:
If you’re setting up ubuntu 6.06LTS with postfix and saslauthd, and you’re getting the error:
warning: SASL authentication failure: cannot connect to saslauthd server: Permission denied
and you can’t figure out why… you need to do
usermod -G sasl -a postfix

Interesting results:
Lightroom uses, and saves, color profile information to your JPEGs. But when you load those in Flickr, in Firefox, you lose the color profile and Firefox uses sRGB. So things look “off”.
What to do? Upgrade to Firefox 3(beta) and then go to about:config, and change:
gfx.color_management.enabled to true
(you can just double click on the config line)
Restart firefox and Viola! you now have color-matched graphics! …of course, you could also just buy a Mac.
Update: Apple also just released Safari 3.1, which also honors embedded color profiles (3.0.4 did, as well, but had a long standing ‘crashes on startup’ problem on all of my computers, so I can’t prove it.)
